Meet Our Tutor Time Staff – Ms. Lauren, Lead Toddler Teacher

picMeet Ms. Lauren, the lead toddler teacher at Tutor Time in Wilmington, DE! She has been teaching at Tutor Time for 18 years and has worked with the toddlers, infants and two-year-olds. Read our Q&A to learn more about this talented member of our team!

Tell us about your background!

It started out in high school where I had taken toddler classes. It started out as observing the children, and then we would do activities with the children. Just going in and seeing them learn every day really inspired me. I got the job at Tutor Time right out of high school and have been here ever since.

What do you like about working with our littlest learners?

I just like seeing them learning new thing. Going from not knowing what’s going on to catching up on little things we do every day. In high school, when I would go in and see the kids learning new songs, and putting together new activities, I just was like, “I want to be the one that taught them these things.” They inspired me to get into it, so I could be the one that said, “I taught you that.”

Can you share what a typical day looks like for you?

We are very busy! We clean the kids up from breakfast, do fun little movement activities, and sometimes we go outside to play. When we come back we do a small circle time, then we step into little activities like our sensory, language, and science stuff. After that we get cleaned up again and get ready for lunch. We do lunch and a nap, we wake up and kind of do the same thing all over again. Get them cleaned up, do a circle time, a snack and then split up into activities again.

Why is ECE important?

I feel like they really need the language and social skills starting out young. I think it really helps them a lot more.

How do you maintain good communication with your parents?

Every morning when parents come in, I’m there with a smile on my face, I say good morning, I ask how they are and how their night was. I have open communication and I’m always there for them. I want them to feel comfortable with me and to know what’s going on, and I like to know too how they are feeling and what they are doing. That way we can work together.

What your favorite book to read to your students?

They LOVE “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” That’s one of our all-time favorites. We have a bunch of the Eric Carle books, but that is one of our favorites.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I have two children of my own and we like to go to parks and play and shop. And reading, I love to read.

What have you loved about working at Tutor Time for the past 18 years?

I love everybody that I work with. We’re like one big family here. I just love seeing the children every day. It puts a smile on my face when I see them in the morning and they’re excited to see me. I love that I have this impact on their lives.
