The Intentional Classroom

Right now, you’re probably wondering what an “intentional classroom” is.

The answer is a great environment to foster learning in your child. This research- and evidence-based approach to education is associated with greater teacher effectiveness, higher student achievement, and an improved school climate.

In the intentional classroom, our curriculum links directly to assessment and lesson planning — or in other words, the curriculum is planned by teachers and responsive to where children are developmentally, ensuring that children get what they need to be successful in school.

The Assessment Process

The Assessment Process

An intentional and responsive curriculum provides data that teachers use to target what happens in the classroom. Teachers plan learning experiences in advance, most often weekly, making accommodations as needed on a daily basis. Days in the classroom are designed with a deliberate mixture of times when:

  • children engage in explorations of their own choice
  • children are guided toward deeper learning
  • teachers plan specific learning experiences with specific outcomes in mind for each child

So what does this mean for your child? It means their classroom will have unique lessons plans based on the current developmental needs of the children in that class. And you can feel confident that your child will be ready for future academic success.
